DESCRIPTION
“I am a Native American living in a contemporary world. As a musician and song writer, I am influenced by both my culture and the music from other
cultures.” Strong Medicine's colorful presentation includes Native languages, culture, stories, legends and the sounds of blues, rock, country, and powwow music. Students will hear original music, see traditional dance to contemporary music, learn about Native people and customs through traditional stories, and participate by singing and dancing. From the powwow drum to drum set, Strong Medicine is an evolution of arts and culture. NOTE: All programs are adaptable in time and age levels.
WORKSHOPS/PROGRAMS
Legends of Music & Dance (kindergarten and up, 50 minutes): In this presentation students will learn about native culture and values through the Creation Story and contemporary songs that echo the themes within the story. The presentation includes student participation. Many Nations in Wisconsin (kindergarten and up, 50 minutes): This presentation focuses on the different tribal nations in Wisconsin. Students will learn native words from Menominee, Oneida, and Ojibiway languages in a contemporary powwow format that brings everyone together. The presentation includes student participation.
Native Powwow Singing (3rd grade and up, 50 minutes): Using a hand held drum, Ted teaches the children, through call and response, the format of Powwow music. Children are introduced to melodic vocables, chants and Native words as they learn a song to sing with the band.
Native Powwow Dancing (3rd grade and up, 50 minutes): Dancers from the group show the students basic inter tribal dance steps. The students also learn about the part of the pow-wow outfits and some the meaning behind the symbols and materials used in making the outfits.

$800 Performances (more than 200 students at one time), additional $150 for back-to-back performance (SEED Eligible Rate)
$320 Full Day, 5 – 45 minute workshops (SEED Eligible Rate)
$1,400 Full Week, 5 Full Days (SEED Eligible Rate)
Single workshops or presentation are also available, but not eligible for SEED funding. Please contact artist for fees.

Mileage more than 20 miles is figured from Oneida, Wisconsin to your program site at .50 per miles, round trip, 2 cars; and from Milwaukee to your program site at .50 per mile, round trip. Possible lodging expense when artist lives more than 60 miles from program site.
