DESCRIPTION
In the Iroquois way, dancing is good medicine. It brings people together, it celebrates life, and it lifts our spirits. Tina has been dancing as a Smoke dancer and Traditional dancer since 2001. The Smoke Dance was originally a war dance for men. In recent decades, while putting on exhibitions, the dance tempo was sped up to see if the dancers could keep up. Now, the Smoke Dance is a popular competition at Iroquois Pow Wows. Tina shares her Oneida name, Yeanewhahuwise, “She Brings The Dance” in this delightful mix of stories and dance of the Iroquois people and Tina’s own journey in learning Native dance. NOTE: All programs are adaptable in time and intensity.
